RUBENSOHL Convention (After 1ΝΤ- Overcall)
The concept was introduced by Bruce Neill of Australia in a Bridge World magazine article in May 1983. Because he had based his concept on earlier work by Jeff Rubens on Rubens Advances and on Lebensohl, Neill named the treatment Rubensohl.
Α) Overcall in a specific suit at level 2
Continuations :
1 Double= Negarive, shortness in opp suit or starts Stayman qirgout stopper.
After a negative double, transfers do no apply. Then, after suit from opener:
- New suit is natural, weak.
- 2NT is minors.
- Cuebid is Stayman without stopper.
2 New suit at level 2 = Natural, 5+c, slightly encouraging
3 2ΝΤ = Transfer invitational +, 5+c next suit
4 3 in a suit = Transfer invitational +, 5+c next suit
5 3 at previous of opp suit = Stayman with stopper ( Opener without any major bids opp suit)
6 3♠ = Two-suiter in minors, without stopper
7 3NT = To play with stopper (otherwise double first)
8 4♣ = Gerber
9 4♦/4♥ = Texas
Responses to Τransfers
α) 3NT = Stopper, good hand or good fit
β) Simpe acceptance = Minimum
γ) Other suit = Maximum, without stopper
Continuations aftter 1NT-Overcall-Double-Suit from Opener
α) New suit = 5+c, no game interest.
β) 2ΝΤ = Both minors, no game iterest
γ) Cuebid= Stayman without stopper
Β) Overcall in unspecified suit or two-suiter at level 2
1 Double= Penalty-oriented, 6+p. Afterwards, when opps end up at a 2level suit, transfers apply. However, double is now for penalty.
2 Pass = 0-6p.
3 Suit at level 2 = Natural, 5+c slightly encouraging
4 Suit at level 3 or 2ΝΤ = Transfer invitational (3♠ = both minors, GF)
5 4♣ = Gerber
6 4♦/4♥ = Texas
